Introduction

What is Attitude?
• Your
attitude is the outward expression of your emotional disposition toward just
about everything
• A
person's perspective toward a specified target and way of saying and doing
things
• An
attitude can be defined as a positive or negative evaluation of people,
objects, event, activities, ideas, or just about anything in your environment
• A
way of thinking about something/somebody
• A
way of behaving towards something/somebody
• A
position of the body; demeanor, outlook or disposition

Facts About Attitudes
- Our attitude can be positive or negative
- It is not a reflex action
- It is not a permanent trait
- It can be controlled
- It can be learned and unlearned
- We can choose to alter or change our attitude
- It’s a matter of choice
- As a wise coach once said, “Attitudes are contagious – is yours worth catching?”
- Attitude can be formed from a person's past and present
- Attitude is also measurable and changeable as well as influencing the person's emotion and behavior

How Attitudes are Formed
Attitudes form directly as a result of

may emerge due to direct personal experience, or they may result from
observation.
• Social roles and social norms can have a
strong influence on attitudes.

roles relate to how people are expected to behave in a particular role or
context.

norms involve society's rules for what behaviors are considered appropriate.
