Text: 1
Thess. 5:23
And the
very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit
and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the
coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
KJV
I pray that
God, who gives peace, will make you completely holy. And may your spirit,
soul, and body be kept healthy and faultless until our
Lord Jesus Christ returns.
CEV
May God
himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put
you together — spirit, soul, and body — and keep you
fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ.
MSG
And may the
God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [separate you from
profane things, make you pure and wholly consecrated to God]; and may your spirit
and soul and body be preserved sound and complete [and found]
blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah). AMP
How Does Man Relate To The Word?
Man relates
to the world both from the outward and inner man 2Co_4:16
Outward Man = Body and its Senses
Inward Man =Soul and Spirit
As a tripartite being,
Man is a spirit
He has a soul
He lives in body
Spirit
The
dimension of man which deals with the spiritual realm. The part of man
that knows God.
Soul
The
dimension of man which deals with the mental realm:
Intellect,
Sensibilities, Will, Reasons and thinking.
Body
The
dimension of man which deals with the physical realm.
The house
in which we live.
2 Cor. 5:1,4
For we know that if our earthly house of
this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not
made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For we that are in this tabernacle do
groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed
upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life
At
Death,
the body goes back to dust till resurrection
(1 Cor.15:34-36; Phil 3:21)
Psa
30:9 What profit is there in my
blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee?
shall it declare thy truth?
Ecc.12:7
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return
unto God who gave it.
Ecc 3:20
All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again,
the inner man continues to live in a state of
full consciousness either in hell or heaven.
The Soul
Is the Seat
of Emotions, Passion, Appetite, Desires and Mental Faculty
The Soul
Is the
capable of Lusting (1 Pet.2:11), Hunger (Prov.6:30), Pant (Ps.42:1), Being full
of troubles (Ps.88:3), Being Refreshed
(Ps.23:13)
The Soul
Is the
battle-ground of the flesh and spirit Rom.8:1-13; Gal.5:16-26
The Soul
Can not DIE
(Mat. 10:28), But it can be LOST (Mk.
8:36) or SAVED (James
1:21),
The
Spirit
Is the
dimension of man that has the ability to relate with the spirit world
The
Spirit
Is the
capable of being Troubled (Gen 41:8), Revived (Gen.45:27), Willing
(Ex.35:21), Harden (Deu.2:30), Overwhelmed(Ps.77:3)
The
Spirit
Is the
capable of being Haughty/humble (Prov 16:18 - 19), Searched (Ps.77:6), Trained (Job.20:3, 32:8)
According
to the priority arrangement, the Inward man is more important than the outward
man
Prov 4:23
Keep and
guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it
flow the springs of life.
It is
important to guard what is in your heart because the things that are in your
heart will become the controlling factors in your day to day living.
A good man
brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man
brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart Lk.6:45
As with any
bank, what you put on deposit in your heart will eventually be drawn out and
spent in your daily living.
“What comes
out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s
heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,
greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these
evils come from inside and defile a person.”
Mark 7:20-23
To Guard
your Heart, you must know the Gates to the Heart
- Lip Gates
Proverbs
4:24 says, “Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from
your lips.”
“Listen and understand. What
goes into a man’s mouth does not make him ‘unclean,’ but what comes out of his
mouth, that is what makes him ‘unclean.’” (Matthew 15:10-11)
James 3:6
says, “The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body.
It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is
itself set on fire by hell.”
2. Eyes Gates
, “Let your
eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you.”
Proverbs
4:25
“Your eye
is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is
full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness.
See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your
whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be just as full of
light as when a lamp shines its light on you.”
Luke
11:34-36
3. The Ear gate
My son, pay
attention to what I say;
turn your
ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your
heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4:20-27.
And he said
unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it
shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. For he that
hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even
that which he hath. Mar 4:24 -25
Take heed
therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given;
and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to
have. Luk 8:18
The Content
and posture of what you hear will affect the position of your heart
4. The foot gate
Proverbs 4:26-27 “Make level paths for your feet and take only
ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from
evil.”
The
direction we set in life conditions our development
Conclusion
Whatever
enters into your heart, came through the gates and comes into your life.
It you
don’t want it in your life, stop it at the gate
